The Hoag Classic 2024

The Hoag Classic will be taking place Wednesday, March 20th through Sunday, March 24th. The Hoag Classic is held at the Newport Beach Country Club. This is one of the best stops on the PGA Tour of Champions. Mosaic Stepping Stone Class at Sherman Library and Gardens

The Sherman Library and Gardens is hosting a Mosaic Stepping Stone Class. On Tuesday, February 27th, the mosaic workshop will be held in the outdoor classroom. The workshop is taught by mosaic artist David Jarvinen. You will learn to use tools and adhesive. You will begin with a compound tile snipper to create the shapes you are looking for. A grout kit will be sent home with each participant to complete the project at home after the adhesive dries. This class is scheduled to run from 10am to 3pm, without scheduled breaks, so bring lunch, snacks, and drinks to enjoy throughout the class. All supplies will be provided. Creating Bonsai with Dwarf Camellias

The Sherman Library and Gardens is hosting a workshop: Creating Bonsai with Dwarf Camellias. The workshop will be held on Thursday, January 25th from 10am to 1pm. Debra Mauzy-Melitz, from Orange Empire Bonsai Society will teach you how to display a camellia in a traditional Japanese style and then how to maintain the plant. 115th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights

The 115th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights will be held December 13th through December 17th. Watch as boats of all sizes from kayaks and canoes to yachts that are festively decorated take part in the parade. Each night the parade begins at 6:30pm and runs until approximately 9pm. It is held in Newport Harbor, starting at the east end of Lido Isle, the first public viewing spot is at the Marina Park.  This event is hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce. Inspecting Carol at Newport Theatre Arts Center

The Newport Theatre Arts Center hosting performances of Inspecting Carol, November 16th through December 10th. This play is a comedy that explores the world of theater and the humorous side of Christmas traditions. Begonia Plant Show and Sale

The Sherman Library and Garden is hosting a Begonia Plant Show and Sale. On Saturday, September 16th and Sunday, September 17th, the Southern California Begonia Society is having a show and sale from 10:30am to 4pm. There will be a large variety of begonias both on display and for sale. There are over 1800 begonia species and new ones are constantly being developed. Sherman Gardens Annual Summer Garden Party

The Sherman Library and Gardens Summer Garden Party will be held on Saturday, August 26th. The Sherman Gardens Volunteer Association hosts the Summer Garden Party. The party will include a Garden Party Hat Contest, Bouquet Bar, Silent Auctions and Raffle. VEA Newport Beach is hosting a Summer Concert series, July’s installment features the Jordan Sherman Band. Traditional Bonsai Display

Sherman Library and Gardens is hosting a traditional Japanese bonsai display on Saturday, June 3rd. Debra Mauzy-Melitz, from Orange Empire Bonsai Society, will conduct an interactive demonstration, including how to display a bonsai tree in the traditional Japanese three-point display or in the modified two-point display. She will discuss how seasonality affects display element choices such as Suiseki (viewing stones) or accent plants as companion element to bonsai. The audience will help Debra design a display. The demonstration will begin at 11:30am and continue until 12:30pm. This demonstration is free with garden admission.
