The Lido Theatre is cultural and historic gem in Newport Beach.  Just a block from the water, this Indy movie house originally opened in 1938. This old movie theatre still has balcony seating. There are 410 seats on the main floor and 212 seats in the balcony.  This theatre has recently been completely remodeled. As part of the remodel the intricate tile work was restored by the same Italian Family that installed it in the 30’s.  The pattern is called Catalina Tile and is seen in only one other location in the entire world.  The renovation did not remove the ocean paintings, that glow when lit with black light. The theatre retained its Grand Marquee which is often used in photographs and commercials.  This is a very popular backdrop for film and television. When the theater opened in 1938, the first film played was “Jezebel” starring Bette Davis. Bette Dais inspired the sitting parlor attached to the ladies room.
