NEON at Orange County Museum of Art

When selling your home during the winter months, use home staging to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Most staging techniques are used to make the space look larger and brighter, in the winter, it is important that the space feel warmer, as well. An example would be creating a cozy seating area in front of the fireplace. This not only draws attention to this home feature, but shows potential buyers a way to use the home during a cold winter night. In addition, add accessories in warm colors such as deep reds and caramels.

The Orange County Museum of Art in connection with Cinema Orange is presenting the movie NEON. NEON will be shown on Friday, January 13th, 2017 at 7pm. NEON made its debut in 2015, which celebrates the history and color of the neon sign. Neon signs are celebrating their 100th anniversary and over time not much has change in the craft and construction of these signs. Neon is one of the greenest forms of lighting. This film was directed by Lawrence Johnston. After the showing of the film, there will be a question and answer session with architectural historian Alan Hess. This movie will be shown on Free Fridays at the Orange County Museum of Art; tickets will be handed out at 5pm on Friday, January 13th. The Orange County Museum of Art is located at 850 San Clemente Drive in Newport Beach. To reserve your movie ticket or to learn more about OCMA, see their website at: https://www.ocma.net/event/cinema-orange-neon.

Holiday Happenings at Fashion Island

Temperature can be a tricky issue when you are selling your home, especially during the winter season. Most sellers’ first instinct is to turn up the heat, so that it is toasty warm, however, potential buyers will be coming in dressed for winter. Potential buyers will also most likely be looking at more than one home and be in and out cars. You do not want your home so warm that it is uncomfortable and have potential buyers make a hasty retreat. The majority of people are comfortable in the temperature range of 65 to 70 degrees. It would also be welcoming to provide a space for buyers and realtors to hang their jackets.

38th Annual Corona del Mar Christmas Walk

When you are selling your home, using scents can be a tricky issue. The best place to check which scents to use and how much scent to use, is with your realtor. Scents can be tricky because many potential buyers can be allergic or sensitive to strong or perfume type odors. That said people want their homes to smell fresh, clean and inviting. Start with a deep cleaning and a professional carpet cleaning, this will go a long way in reducing odors in a home especially from pets and cooking. To add a pleasant aroma to the home try simmering a pot of apple cider with cinnamon sticks in it.

The 38th Annual Corona del Mar Christmas Walk will be held on Sunday, December 4th. This is one of Corona del Mar’s most popular events of the year. Sherman Library and Garden Lecture

When it is time to sell your home, it is always best to have it looking fresh and updated. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to completely renovate your home. A great place to begin is with a general de-cluttering, de-personalizing and a deep cleaning.  From there work with your realtor to decide which rooms need updating and which rooms just need staging. Your realtor can recommend a stager. Updating can be just improving light fixtures and cabinet hardware, not necessarily putting in all new appliances and countertops. Your realtor will know the best options for your home and neighborhood, so that you get your best return on investment.

On Thursday, November 15th, the Sherman Library and Gardens will be having a lecture on how they got their name. The library director, Paul Wormser will be talking about Moses Hazeltine Sherman, who the garden is partially named for. He will also be discussing Sherman Oaks and Sherman Boulevard in San Fernando Valley. Mr. Sherman was a government official, financier, real estate developer, railroad executive, steamship company official and educator. Mr. Sherman was instrumental in the development of Southern California and Arizona. Sherman Library and Gardens is perfect to explore before or after the lecture with a mixture of plants, exotics, gardens and walkways. The garden is open from 10:30am to 4pm daily. Admission is $5. Sherman Library and Gardens is located at 2647 East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar. For more information or to register for this event or see a list of their many others, see their website:

Annual Children's Halloween Festival

One of the most difficult things to do when selling your house is to pick the correct listing price. If you price your home to high, you will miss out on some potential buyers and there is a chance the home will sit on the market with less and less viewings. The best results come when you work with local, professional realtor with experience in your area, such as those of the Franco Team. A professional realtor will show you comparable listings in your area, explain what repairs and updates to make to get the best return on investment. In the fall you don’t want your home to sit on the real estate market, you want it to sell, your realtor is your best resource.
