The Resort at Pelican Hill 5 Star Rating Award

The Resort at Pelican Hill was just awarded the very prestigious five star rating from the Forbes Travel Guide. This year 58 hotels nationwide received this rating; twelve of those were in California. This is the first time the Resort at Pelican Hill has received this honor. The resort has worked hard this past year, with increased training and internal audits, to achieve this goal. The Forbes five star distinction is said to be more difficult to achieve than the five diamond rating from AAA.  101 hotels nationwide received the AAA five diamond rating this year. The Forbes award enables hotels to charge increased rates. Forbes bases their fifth star on the level of service the staff offers. Forbes hotel inspectors stay in each hotel for a minimum of three days and two nights, incognito. The inspectors use all the services the hotels offers, such as room service, fitness centers and dining rooms. Some of the specifications a five star hotel must meet include greeting arriving guests’ curbside within 60 seconds of arrival, wake-up calls are placed within two minutes of requested time, restaurant drink refills are delivered within 30 seconds of a beverage being emptied and phone calls are not put on hold for greater than 30 seconds without being offered a call back.  The Forbes Travel Guide was formerly known as the Mobil Travel Guide.

The Great Room at the Resort at Pelican Hill

Slow things down for a short time this weekend, while enjoying afternoon tea in the Great Room at the Resort at Pelican Hill.  Sip a cup of tea or glass of wine in front of the grand fireplace or in an ocean view alcove while the Pelican Hill Resort’s classical harpist entertains you.  Enjoy an assortment of sweet and savory delights in the casually elegant living room of the resort. Afternoon tea, or high tea, began in the mid 1800’s, when the Duchess of Bedford would have a tray of tea with bread and butter served in the mid-afternoon to prevent her fainting spells.  After this became a regular occurrence, she began to invite other high-society ladies to attend.   The Great Room at the Pelican Hill Resort serves afternoon tea from 2:30PM to 5PM, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Pelican Hill is a home to lovely view properties.  The property at 6 Gallery Place in Pelican Hill is a gardener’s paradise.  The gardens include both an herb and vegetable garden, and best of all an award winning English Garden inspired by a garden at the Palace of Versailles.  From the outdoor space you can also enjoy beautiful views of the Pelican Hills Golf Course, City Night Lights, the Pacific Ocean and breathtaking sunsets. There is a private pool with a waterfall.  Once inside, there are hand poured moldings, handmade carpets and exquisite details throughout the house.  There is fifteen seat theater and eight car garage as well.

Lido Theater in Newport Beach

The Lido Theatre is cultural and historic gem in Newport Beach.  Just a block from the water, this Indy movie house originally opened in 1938. This old movie theatre still has balcony seating. There are 410 seats on the main floor and 212 seats in the balcony.  This theatre has recently been completely remodeled. As part of the remodel the intricate tile work was restored by the same Italian Family that installed it in the 30’s.  The pattern is called Catalina Tile and is seen in only one other location in the entire world.  The renovation did not remove the ocean paintings, that glow when lit with black light. The theatre retained its Grand Marquee which is often used in photographs and commercials.  This is a very popular backdrop for film and television. When the theater opened in 1938, the first film played was “Jezebel” starring Bette Davis. Bette Dais inspired the sitting parlor attached to the ladies room.

If you would like to enjoy this theatre on a regular basis, perhaps a home in Pelican Hill is just the right fit. The Franco Team is a great resource for finding your perfect location in the Pelican Hill neighborhood. 17 Harbor Light is fantastic home for those looking in the gated Pelican Hills neighborhood. This 7,500 square foot home has it all; open flowing spaces, exceptional finish details, gourmet kitchen, formal library; right down to a very private backyard with Pacific Ocean views. The back yard is completed with a pool and spa.  This home features a five car garage, as well.

New construction home sales rises in OC

The new housing is making a resurgence in the Orange County area.  In 2012, the number of new home neighborhoods with sales of fifty homes or greater was twenty-two.  That same number was only 3, in 2011, which is 86% increase. According to MarketPointe, a San Diego research company, that studies new home trends, they found that the inventory of new homes fell 46% between 2011 and 2012.  With a correction to this inventory number, the sales of new homes would grow even faster.  Many builders are going back to work, so supply will be on the increase. New homes sales are increasing in part because of low interest rates, a healing economy, an increase in consumer confidence and growing number of buyers. Scott Lourie, the COO and president of Olson Homes observed a rebound in the beginning of June of 2012.  Olson Homes built a new townhouse community of twelve residences in La Palma, which sold out in one week.  The future is looking bright for further growth in Orange County; the Tustin Legacy project of 375 homes is scheduled to start building in January of 2014.  A larger neighborhood of 2,379 residences will begin construction in January of 2014.
